At 22, Armand Duplantis has already been the best pole vaulter in history for a while.

Thursday, at home, the Swedish Olympic champion cleared 6.16 m, the best jump in history outdoors, at the Diamond League meeting in Stockholm.

The world record holder (6.20 m in March in Belgrade indoors) did better than his 6.15 m achieved in September 2020 in Rome.

Before Duplantis, it was the Ukrainian Sergey Bubka who had jumped the highest in the open air (6.14 m in 1994).

In two weeks, during the Eugene Worlds (July 15-24), the Swede will try to win the only title missing from his huge list.

He has already broken the world record four times, gradually increasing since 2020 from 6.17m to 6.20m this winter, when he became indoor world champion in Belgrade.

"We don't know where it will end"

“I felt that I had the form to make such a performance, underlined the local hero, who lives ten minutes from the stadium.

Not necessarily the shape of my life because I feel that I can still improve.

I haven't been perfect.

I still have room.

Something to scare off the competition.

“He makes another monstrous leap.

We don't know where he's going to stop, I'm happy to have had my beautiful period before him, there he is walking on everyone, ”welcomed the former world record holder Renaud Lavillenie, in progress with a 5th place at 5.83 m.
