A record was broken this Sunday morning at the Savoiexpo park in Chambéry (Savoie).

Handisport athlete Julien Grandjean, originally from the city, and 65 runners improved the distance covered in twenty-four hours on a joëlette.

It is an armchair equipped with wheels and intended to be pushed.

The Savoyard and his torchbearers covered 304.19 km, reports

Le Dauphiné Libéré

.

A progression of 40 km

The previous world record was set in 2020, with 264.55 km in one day.

The objective had therefore been set at 270 km, completed even faster than expected and leaving room for the riders to improve the mark.

To achieve this feat, they completed 15-minute races in groups of four.

The last hundred meters Julien Grandjean, swimmer, skier and footballer, and his team, were covered in the midst of several hundred torchbearers and supporters who completed the course with the athletes.

The record must now be approved by Guinness World Records.
