Shayna Jack has already taken part in a team race gold with Australia in the 4x100 meter freestyle and the idea was that she would chase an individual gold in the 100 meter freestyle.
But when the trial swimming was decided, the 23-year-old was not present.
On her Instagram account, she explained why:
"Due to an unfortunate incident at training this morning, I broke my hand. I feel completely overwhelmed to have to announce that I have to withdraw from the championship and that I do not have the opportunity to achieve what I want "

Sarah Sjöström advanced to the semifinals in the 100 meter freestyle with a time of 53.78 seconds.
