Ginjiro Sumitani, a catcher who has participated in most of the games of this season at Rakuten, a professional baseball team, has been confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus.

According to Rakuten, Sumitani was tested positive on the 21st by the team's regular PCR test.



Sumitani was on the bench in the match against Nippon-Ham Fighters in Akita on the 21st, but he was judged positive and left the team in the middle of the match and is currently undergoing medical treatment.



Sumitani had no symptoms, and the other players had a negative PCR test.



Sumitani has participated in 48 of the 64 games so far this season, supporting the pitchers with the lead and contributing to the team competing for the lead.
