Sofia Åstedt made her championship debut at the European Short Course Championships last year.
There she reached the final of the 200 meters freestyle and finished in the end eight.
When it was time for the World Cup debut, things did not go so well for the 18-year-old.
Åstedt was good at first in the trials of 200 meters freestyle, but during the last distance she lost time and finally finished eighth in the trial.
She swam in the time 2: 03.22 and was just over five seconds behind Claire Weinsten who took the last final place.
After the race, she was noticeably disappointed and first went straight past the mixed zone before returning.
