Siobhan Haughey became historic at the Olympics in Tokyo.

The 24-year-old took double silver and thus became Hong Kong's first Olympic medalist in swimming ever.

Before the World Track Championships in Budapest, Haughey was seen as one of Sarah Sjöström's big competitors in the 100 meter freestyle.

But now it is clear that Haughey will not start at the championship.

"I'm sorry to have to announce that I will not be competing in the World Cup this week.

At such a big championship, I want to be sure that I can perform at a high level.

Unfortunately, I'm not there yet ", she writes on Instagram.

"Been a challenging year"

Haughey has had an injured ankle and that is one of the big reasons why she can not participate in the World Cup.

Getting through quarantine and lockdowns at the beginning of the year was not easy.

Add to that my ankle injury and it has really been a challenging year that has tested my character.

It has been difficult to get me through all the training and rehab to get where I want to be in such a short time.

Although my ankle has improved a lot, I simply do not think I'm ready to compete.

After consulting my team of medical experts and coaches, we decided that it was best for me to withdraw from the World Cup ", she writes.
