Matt Fitzpatrick, 27, had never won the PGA Tour before - until last night.

Because after great drama with many twists and turns at the top of the leaderboard, the Englishman finally managed to win the major competition US Open.

He won by one stroke ahead of Will Zalatoris and Scottie Scheffler who shared second place.

The victory, however, was slipping out of his hands.

On the last hole, when he led with a shot, he pulled the shot to the left and landed in a bunker.

But he saved it with an impressive shot up on the green and was then able to put home the victory.

- The bunker battle was probably the best battle I have fought in my whole life, says Fitzpatrick after the competition and continues.

Biggest price check ever

In addition to the fact that Fitzpatrick can now call himself a major winner, he also collects the biggest prize check in a major ever.

The Englishman gets around 35 million for the victory in Boston.

- The feeling is completely unreal.

It's so cliché but it's something you dream about as a child.

I can retire as a happy man tomorrow.

The Swedes lost

For the Swedish part, it looked bright at the beginning of the week.

David Lingmerth, 34, who was at the top of the competition at first, had a tough last day.

The 34-year-old went on 77 strokes during the last round and crashed down to a shared 49th place.

Sebastian Söderberg finished the last day two strokes over par and finished split 53rd.
