Zamalek retains the lead in the Egyptian League after a draw with Al-Ahly

The defending champions Zamalek retained the top spot in the Egyptian Premier League after a 2-2 draw with its rivals Al-Ahly in a summit match today, Sunday.

Mohamed Sharif advanced with a goal for Al-Ahly in the 12th minute, and Ashraf Bencharki equalized for Zamalek with a header in the 68th minute after a pass from substitute Mahmoud Abdel Razek (Shikabala), who added a goal after eight minutes.

However, in the 80th minute, substitute Salah Mohsen equalized for Al-Ahly, who played the match led by interim coach Sami Komsan, after the departure of the multi-titled coach, Pitso Mosimane.

Imam Ashour almost snatched victory for Zamalek in a match that was held in front of a limited number of fans, with only five thousand people allowed to attend, but he hit the crossbar in the first minute of overtime.

Zamalek has 45 points from 21 games, four points behind Al-Ahly, who played 18 games and occupies third place.

Pyramids is in second place with 43 points from 21 matches.
