Saudi Arabia defeats Uzbekistan to win the Asian U-23 Championship

Saudi Arabia won the AFC U-23 Championship for the first time, defeating Uzbekistan 2-0 in the final in Tashkent on Sunday.

Ahmed Al-Ghamdi scored the first goal in the 48th minute, and Firas Al-Braikan added the second goal about a quarter of an hour before the end.

Saudi Arabia deservedly won the title, not conceding any goal in six matches, only drawing with Japan in the group stage, winning five times, and playing the final against Uzbekistan fans.

After a first half without goals, and from an organized attack, the ball reached Al-Ghamdi on the edge of the penalty area, and he skillfully dribbled off one of his opponents and then fired a powerful shot with his left foot into the net.

Uzbekistan pressed hard to try to equalize, but from a quick counter-attack, the ball reached Al-Braikan on the left side, and he fired a massive ground shot with his left foot into the far corner.

And Saudi Arabia had previously lost in the final of the tournament in 2014 against Iraq, as well as in the final of 2020 against South Korea after extra time.

Japan finished third after beating Australia 3-0 on Saturday.
