The newly formed Germany eight started the World Cup season with a win.

The flagship of the German Rowing Association (DRV), which competed with six newcomers a year after the Olympic silver medal in Tokyo, dictated the racing action at the World Cup in Poznan from the start and won with a three-quarter boat length lead over Australia and Poland.

The crew led by batsman Mattes Schönherr had already won the pre-run.

In the Olympic classes, however, the young German fleet got nothing in the heat on Lake Malta.

Alexandra Föster (Meschede) finished fourth in the singles, Paul Leerkamp and Arno Gaus (Osnabrück/Bonn) in the easy doubles and the women's eights.

After the World Cup in Lucerne (July 8th to 10th) and the European Championships in Munich (August 11th to 13th), the World Championships in Racice are on the agenda from September 18th to 25th.
