• Arrived in August 2020 in Rennes, central defender Nayef Aguerd announced that he had played his last match in red and black in Lille.

  • The Moroccan is set to join English club West Ham for a record fee of 35 million euros.

  • If the transfer amount was confirmed, it would make him the most expensive player in the club's history, ahead of Ousmane Dembélé or Eduardo Camavinga.

Ousmane Dembélé, Eduardo Camavinga, Ismaïla Sarr and Edouard Mendy.

If the amount of the transfer announced at 35 million euros were to be confirmed, Nayef Aguerd would take the lead in the biggest transactions carried out by Stade Rennais football club in front of big names in world football.

If his departure has not yet been formalized by the club of François Pinault, the Moroccan defender has already said goodbye to Rennes supporters.

In a message posted on his social networks, Nayef Aguerd announced his departure from the transfer window, without specifying where he was going to sign.

Except surprise, the Moroccan should join West Ham, 7th in the last English championship and qualified for the Europa League.

“It is a difficult decision as I have spent exceptional moments since my arrival at the club in August 2020”, he wrote, before thanking his teammates, the supporters, the shareholder, the club staff and the two coaches who worked with him, Julien Stéphan and Bruno Genesio.

Arrived in the summer of 2020 from Dijon for around 5 million euros, Nayef Aguer could bring big money to Stade Rennais.

According to the British media, West Ham would be ready to drop 35 million euros plus a few bonuses to afford the central defender.

Very fast, skilful in the recovery and very efficient with his header, the Moroccan quickly became one of the leaders of the very young Rennes squad.

“I am leaving the branded club,” he said, referring to “the boiling atmospheres of Roazhon Park against PSG, Lyon, Leicester or OM”.

In two seasons in Brittany, the 26-year-old international played 80 games, played in the first Champions League in Rennes history and scored seven goals, often with a header.

Arrived from Burgundy on tiptoe, the native of Kenitra has become in two seasons one of the best central defenders in Ligue 1, contributing to the excellent season at Stade Rennais.

His teammate and friend Martin Terrier paid tribute to him in a short message: “I will miss you”.

Rennes supporters all say the same thing.

And wonder who will be able to replace him.
