Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), solid leader in the MotoGP championship, won his second victory in a row at the German Grand Prix on Sunday June 19, ahead of the other Frenchman on the grid, Johann Zarco (Ducati-Pramac ).

Australian Jack Miller (Ducati) completed the podium in the 10th out of 20 rounds of the season, ahead of Spaniard Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia), runner-up to Quartararo in the general classification.

This victory in Saxony increases the lead of the reigning world champion over Espargaro to 34 points.

Not the first Quartararo / Zarco double

"I was sick all weekend and during the race I coughed a little (...) but I'm super happy," said Fabio Quartararo who, unlike most of his competitors, had opted for an intermediate rear tire rather than a hard one.

Starting in second position, he took the advantage over poleman Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) from the first corner of the Sachsenring, never to let go of the controls of the race.

The Italian, who had had a perfect weekend so far and was trying not to be left behind by the Frenchman, fell a few laps later, giving up second place to his pursuer, the Frenchman Johann Zarco.

"When Pecco crashed, I tried to stay in contact with Fabio, I wanted to catch him because I knew he had the medium tire (at the rear, ed). Maybe I could have had a chance at the end, but I couldn't", reacted on arrival the Frenchman, exhausted, still looking for his first victory in MotoGP.

Quartararo and Zarco had already achieved a double in that order at the Portuguese Grand Prix in April and in Doha last season.

The Italian Enea Bastianini (Ducati-Gresini), who occupied a fragile third place in the championship before the German round, finished 10th and is now in 4th place overall with 100 points, ahead of Johann Zarco (111), new third.
