The former German and Bayern star begins his first "complete" training mission in Austria

Austrian football club Altach has announced the appointment of Germany's top scorer, Miroslav Klose, as coach of the team.

Klose, who scored 71 goals for Germany in 137 international matches, has never had a full training mission with any first team or national team, having previously worked as an assistant coach for his country between 2016 and 2018.

He became coach of the Bayern Munich U-17 team in 2018, and spent a season as an assistant coach for the first team, Hans Flick.

"It was such a positive feeling that I should have had from the start, that I was in the right place here," Klose said in a statement. "The first discussions with the officials were so open that it was clear to me that I wanted to do so."

Altach finished last in the Austrian league at the end of the season, but managed to avoid relegation to the second division.
