Chilavert, who defines himself politically as a liberal, notably supported far-right candidate Jose Antonio Kast against socialist Gabriel Boric in the 2021 Chilean elections. According to a spokesperson, Chilavert's candidacy will be "out of the Concertacion Nationale”, an opposition coalition, facing the Colorado party (right) of President Mario Abdo, elected in 2019 and in power since 1947 (with the only interruption of the period 2008-2013).
