It was just over seven years since David Lingmerth won his so far only victory on the PGA Tour when he took home the big competition The Memorial.

Since then, things have gone this way for Lingmerth and in recent years, the 34-year-old has alternated games on the PGA Tour with appearances on the Korn Ferry Tour.

But now he seems to be on the move again.

On Thursday, the third golf major of the year, the US Open, began at The Country Club outside Boston and Lingmerth delivered immediately.

Not a bogey on the whole round and also three birdies.

A result that means that he is in a shared first place in the competition with, among others, the pre-favorite Rory McIllroy when about half of the starting field has completed the first round.

Alex Norén has also finished playing for the day.

For him, however, it did not go as well.

A double bogey on the other hole made it really for the 39-year-old who eventually came in on three strokes over par.

Jonas Blixt and Sebastian Söderberg go out 20.31, Swedish time.

The first round is still in progress.
