In the last games of the final, Andy Murray, who had been treated twice before, only dragged himself across the court at the lawn tennis tournament in Stuttgart with a face contorted in pain.

The left hip and abdominal muscles hurt.

Murray couldn't serve properly - but the Scot, who has been playing on the right with an artificial hip joint made of metal for more than three years, didn't want to congratulate his opponent Matteo Berrettini on his victory prematurely.

After all, it was about Murray's first title since autumn 2019. In the end, it wasn't enough to win the tournament, the Italian won 6: 4, 5: 7 and 6: 3 after a long, very entertaining game and secured his first win since Queens last summer.

That's not the only reason why Berrettini's success after two hours and 40 minutes was also a special one, for the Roman it was the first tournament on the professional tour since March, in between he had to have an operation on the little finger of his right batting hand.

"In the beginning I couldn't move my finger properly, it was very stiff and I couldn't even grab my racquet," said Berrettini before the final.

And now, on his comeback, he was celebrating his second tournament victory in Stuttgart.

"It feels incredible for me," emphasized Berrettini during the winner's interview.

After everything he has experienced, the first operation of his life, rehabilitation.

"After the operation, I initially thought that I would not play the grass season and Wimbledon." Last year he surprisingly reached the final there in south-west London.

On the other hand, the Australian Nick Kyrgios from Stuttgart said goodbye with unpleasant scenes on Saturday.

In the semifinals against Murray, the 27-year-old was on the verge of disqualification after losing the first set in the tie-break after having already had a game deducted for several offenses.

He practically gave away the second sentence – to the displeasure of Murray and the audience.

He later justified his behavior by saying that individual viewers racially insulted him.

Kyrgios wrote on Instagram that they called out to him: "You little black sheep" and "Shut up and play." He explained that he had suppressed many things against himself in recent years.

"But one thing I will never tolerate is spectators shouting and berating athletes." The tournament organizer said on Sunday that the incident is currently being investigated.
