The death of sports commentator and former president of the Iraqi Football Association, Muayyad Al-Badri

The former head of the Iraqi Football Association, the well-known Arab sports commentator, Muayyad Al-Badri, died Saturday in England at the age of 88, after a long illness, according to what the Iraqi Ministry of Youth and Sports announced.


In a statement, the ministry mourned the departure of Al-Badri, who headed the board of directors of the Iraqi Football Association for ten years (1977-1988).


"With hearts that believe in God's decree and destiny, we received today the news of the death of the sheikh of Iraqi and Arab sports commentators and the former president of the Iraqi Football Association, Muayad Al-Badri, the great sports personality," the statement said.


The obituary statement added, "We offer our condolences, our sports fans, and our people on the passing of this immortal athletic stature."


Al-Badri, born in the Adhamiya district of the capital, Baghdad in 1934, is considered one of the most famous sports and media personalities known locally thanks to his famous program “Sports in a Week” every Tuesday on Iraq TV for thirty years since 1963. Al-

Al-Badri, who graduated from the Higher Institute of Physical Education at the University of Baghdad in 1957 before completing his studies in the United States of America, left Iraq in 1994 and settled in the Qatari capital, Doha, and worked as an administrative official in the Arab Club for several years there, before settling in the last seven years with His family is in England, where he is buried according to his will.
