In the only interview Kalle Berglund did during the autumn, in the podcast Sporthuset, he told about mental illness and how he suffered from performance anxiety.

He described then, just as now when we meet him, that when people started hearing about him after the Olympics, he broke down.

- When I would answer, it broke.

I was just crying.

I put athletics aside and went home for a month to mum and dad, he says.

Berglund says that he has received very good support from his club Spårvägen and that he now also has good and regular contact with national team captain Kajsa Bergqvist.

In the interview Berglund did last autumn, he said that support from the athletics association was lacking.

- After that interview, I had a conversation with Stefan Olsson

(Secretary General, please note)

.

I said that I would like to share my experiences.

We said we would have a meeting, but after that we have not heard, says Berglund.

"Should talk more about mental illness"

Kalle says that he still wants to share what he experiences and is considering making that contact again.

- Mental illness is an important topic that should be talked about more.

How do you do that even at the national level?

It is not only the national team athletes who are affected.

It is also available at club level.

And that is where the athletics association must set the agenda.

It is important already in the junior national team to start already there.

- How do we train coaches and training buddies?

It may be in the training groups that there are the best opportunities to discover how someone is feeling, Berglund continues.

- We have to get there and now I feel so good that I am happy to be involved and share my experiences and give an insight into what it is like to struggle with mental illness, Berglund concludes.
