Zidane's advisor denies any contacts with Saint-Germain

Zinedine Zidane's advisor denied today that the 1998 World Cup-winning French national team star will soon coach Paris Saint-Germain, the French first football league champion, succeeding his current coach, Argentine Mauricio Pochettino, to lead the team starting from next season.

Earlier today, French radio Europe 1, without revealing any sources, said that Zidane will immediately take over the training of Saint-Germain, replacing Pochettino.

"All these rumors are baseless," French sports daily L'Equipe quoted Zidane's advisor, Alain Migliacchio, as saying.

"To this day, I am the only person authorized to represent and advise Zinedine Zidane. Neither Zinedine Zidane nor I personally have received any direct contact from the owner of Saint-Germain."

Saint-Germain could not immediately be reached for comment.

Pochettino had coached Saint-Germain 18 months ago, but he failed to lead the team towards winning the Champions League for the first time.

And the Parisian team bid farewell to the first European club championship from the round of 16 this year after its defeat against Real Madrid, the Spanish champion and the former Zidane team, which later won the title at the expense of Liverpool.

Saint-Germain secured victory in the French League title early in April, the only title they won in the last season.

Zidane, 49, has not been linked to any team since he left Real Madrid at the end of the 2020-2021 season.
