With the players’ vote, Mohamed Salah wins a new award in 2022

The Egyptian Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool star, won the Player of the Year award in England on Thursday, presented by the Professional Footballers Association for the second time in his career.

Salah surpassed players such as Belgian Kevin De Bruyne, the defending champion Manchester City, who won the award in the past two years.

Salah ended the season as the top scorer in the Premier League, along with South Korean Son Heung-min, Tottenham star (23 goals each), as he was the best passer of decisive balls (13).

Although he was unable to lead his team to the League or Champions League title, after finishing second, a point behind City and losing the continental final against Real Madrid, Salah won the award for the second time after 2018.

He said in an interview with the Professional Players Association, “It is always great.” Winning titles, whether individual or collective (...) This award is very important, especially because it is given by the players.”

"Individually, it shows that you have worked hard and that you are getting what you have worked for, sort of."

Six Liverpool players were in the Team of the Year: Salah, Senegalese Sadio Mane, Spaniard Thiago Alcantara, defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dutchman Virgil van Dijk and Brazilian goalkeeper Alison Becker.

The Portuguese team, Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo, who finished second in the league's top scorer list (18 goals), completed his compatriots Bernardo Silva and Joao Cancelo (Manchester City), De Bruyne, and Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger.

Oddly enough, Son was not in the Team of the Year.

Manchester City striker Phil Foden, 22, won the Best Young Player award.
