Today, the superseded Super Golf League started.

The new tour is a project funded by Saudi Arabia - one of the lowest ranked countries in the world in terms of human rights.

LIV Golf, as the project is called, offers historically large price checks and more sparse game schedules.

The players who have chosen to join the tour have been heavily criticized.

The American PGA Tour has previously hinted that suspensions could affect those who change tour - and now it is clear that this will be the case.

Contrary to the rules

In a press release, tour manager Jay Monahan announces the suspension of the 17 contracted players who started in this week's Super Golf League competition in London.

- Their participation in the Saudi Glof League / LIV Golf event violates our competition rules.

The same goes for all other players participating in future Saudi Golf League events, he says.

So far, only one top 25 player in the world has made the banned move.

Namely Dustin Johnson.

Among the high-profile names who changed tour are also Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia and Ian Poulter.
