Egyptian Olympic champion Ahmed El-Gendy sparked widespread controversy on social media platforms, after he complained about the ill-treatment he was subjected to at the Cairo Stadium, which prompted Egyptian fans to link the incident to the story of the squash player El Shorbagy.

Al-Shorbagy had decided two days ago to represent England instead of Egypt after many years in squash tournaments, explaining that the reason behind the decision was "the bad treatment of some individuals," according to what he said in an interview with the BBC, the day before yesterday, Monday. .

The soldier - the owner of Egypt's first silver medal in the modern pentathlon - said in a long post on his personal account on Facebook - today, Wednesday - that the incident occurred with him this morning in the swimming pools complex at Cairo Stadium, when he was prevented from entering the parking lot designated for the swimming pool.

The soldier added, "I asked the security man about the reason for the ban, and he said, "These are instructions from an official who was inside the swimming pool yesterday and was disrupted for 12 minutes. The official decided to punish everyone by preventing cars from entering the parking lot - which accommodates about 200 cars - without any consideration that this is a team player." ".

The soldier indicated that he did not want to link the situation that happened with him to the story of Al-Shorbagy, because - according to his opinion - "this problem is a point in the sea, and it is possible for anyone else to see it as unimportant, but any person who plays sports professionally will understand this point."

The Egyptian Olympic champion's post received a wide response from the Egyptian public, who expressed his anger at dealing with heroic athletes in this way in Egypt, and they saw that such behavior prompts many to search for another opportunity in a new place, as Al-Shorbagy did.

One of them wrote, commenting on the soldier’s post, “People are surprised that our heroes are naturalized with second nationalities. This is an Olympic silver medalist in a game that no Arab athlete was expected to achieve. We have the champions of all individual games subjected to a great deal of injustice and persecution, especially since most of them pay the costs out of their pocket.” And in the end, when some of them find actual support from another country, they choose to naturalize (with its nationality), and there are many examples, the last of which is Al-Shorbagy.”

And the Egyptian activist Khaled Fouda, commenting on what happened with the soldier, tweeted, "This is the silver medalist of the Tokyo Olympics, so that only those burned by patriotism and angry at Shorbagy can see what these athletes face all the time. It is sad, God."

Another tweeter said, "Ahmed El-Gendy is the Egyptian player in the modern pentathlon, and the silver medalist of the Tokyo Olympics, the first Olympic medal in the history of Africa in the game. Because people are upset when the heroes leave and naturalize with a second nationality."

The soldier returned and wrote a new publication in which he explained that the problem was later resolved with the intervention of the Egyptian Minister of Sports, Ashraf Sobhi, stressing at the same time that there was no link between what happened with him and the Al-Shorbagy case, but he spoke so that his right would not be lost and the problem would not be repeated again.
