The International Skating Federation (ISU) on Tuesday raised the minimum age for figure skaters to 17 instead of the current 15 to participate in senior competitions.

A measure taken with the aim of “protecting the physical and mental health, as well as the emotional well-being of skaters”.

It will come into force gradually.

“There will be no change for the 2022/23 season, an increase to 16 years old for the 2023/24 season and an increase to 17 years old for the 2024/25 season and the following seasons”, specifies the ISU.

The ISU Congress voted in favor of gradually increasing the age limit from 15 to 17 years for the sake of protecting the physical and mental health, and emotional well-being of Skaters.
