Wout van Aert thought he had won the race, so he raised his arms to celebrate… He took it badly since the Belgian champion was blown up on the line by David Gaudu during the third stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné.

The last survivor of the breakaway, Jonas Wilsly (Uno-X), was caught 4.5 kilometers from the finish, on the climb to Chastreix-Sancy.

The strong riders were therefore able to compete for the stage, and Gaudu signed his second victory of the year there after that of February in the Algarve.

Wout van Aert therefore remains blocked at four successes in 2022, but the Belgian champion has not lost everything since he has swapped his green jersey for the yellow one, which he had already worn following his victory on Sunday at Beauchastel.

The Jurassic Alexis Vuillermoz (TotalEnergies), mouth wide open on the final climb, could not keep up the pace and logically gave up his tunic.

Pierre Rolland (B & B Hotels-KTM) meanwhile reinforced his polka dot jersey by taking the lead at the top of the Côte de Besse-en-Chandesse.

On Wednesday, the peloton will have to contend with an individual time of 31.9 kilometers between Montbrison and La Bâtie d'Urfé.

Suffice to say that you will have to get up early to snatch the yellow jersey from van Aert's shoulders.
