Jonas Jerebko's decision to sign for Russian CSKA Moscow was met with massive criticism.

One of many who directly criticized the club choice was SVT Sports expert Nick Rajacic, who has a personal relationship with Jerebko.

- It is a dark chapter in an otherwise brilliant career.

Jonas Jerebko has always been an athlete who behaved both on and off the field.

But these two months in Russia will define the last part of his career, says Rajacic.

- You get very sad too.

Jonas has always been a great role model.

Swedish basketball needs Jonas Jerebko as a role model, and now many bridges have been burned and it will take time before those bridges are rebuilt.

"Will be a concern"

On Sunday, the seventh and decisive final in the Russian league VTB United League was decided.

Jerebko's Moscow lost 75-81 to Zenit.

It is not clear where the Swedish star will play in the future, but Rajacic believes that it will be difficult for Jerebko to play in Sweden.

- If we talk about his opportunities in the US, where he has houses and companies, then I do not think it affects him at all.

However, if he wants to come back to Sweden and have a life here, and maybe get involved in Swedish basketball, then I absolutely believe that this will be a concern and something that can stand in the way.

National team door still closed

The Swedish Basketball Association has suspended the 35-year-old from national team games, as the club choice does not coincide with the association's values.

- In connection with Jonas going there, we had a dialogue, after that we have not really had a dialogue.

We thought we had to make clear his position, he had to make his clear.

Since then, we have not really talked to each other, says the union's general secretary Fredrik Joulamo to SVT Sport.

What would it take for him to be welcome in the national team again?

- We would need to talk and find a consensus on how our values are.

We want players who are behind our values.

What is required is that he has changed his view of what is appropriate and what is not, when it comes to playing in Russia, which is currently involved in an invasion war in Ukraine.

Joulamo believes that it is not possible to say when, or if, Jerebko will play in the Swedish national team again.

But it is clear that he will not be with the summer World Cup qualifiers.

- I say that based on what we know at the moment.

Jonas is in Russia, playing the final and has not given us any indication that his view on this issue has changed.
