Daniel Farke starts his new job as head coach at Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach with anticipation and humility.

"It's a moment that fills me with joy and a bit of pride," said the 45-year-old at his official presentation on Sunday: "I'm approaching this task with great gratitude for the trust.

Hopefully we can lead this club into a good future together.”

The 45-year-old signed a contract until 2025 on Saturday and succeeds Adi Hütter, from whom the club from the Lower Rhine parted ways at the end of a moderate season.

"First of all, it's not my issue to evaluate what happened in the past," said Farke: "I'm convinced that we have a very, very good basis." The current squad offers "a lot of potential", but that alone will probably not be enough: "Of course we need a good transfer summer and have to make good decisions."

However, missing out on European competitions and the resulting lack of income could make it difficult to get proper reinforcements.

"It is not easy to fulfill all wishes with the financial circumstances," said Farke and added: "We are all very, very hopeful that we will succeed in a good way."

It is still too early to talk about what exactly will happen at Borussia in terms of personnel.

“Now is not the right time to speculate about individual personal details and positions.

We will do that when the time comes,” said Farke, who was born in Büren, Westphalia and made a name for himself working at Norwich City in England.

Twice he led the club into the English Premier League.

Most recently he was hired by FK Krasnodar in Russia, but left the job after a short time because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
