Konate for the first time in a France shirt... and a substitute for the injured Varane

France and Manchester United defender Raphael Varane will miss the next three matches of his country in the European Football Championship, due to an injury during the match against Denmark yesterday, and will be replaced by Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate, as announced by the French Football Federation, where he was called up for the first time.

And the French Federation issued a statement regarding Varane's injury, saying, "The Manchester United defender underwent tests that proved his inability to play the last three matches of this season."

The statement indicated that Konate will be "in Split (Croatia) during training on the eve of the match" scheduled against Croatia on Monday evening.

Varane suffered several injuries last season at Manchester United, most notably when he was absent for about two months during last October and November.
