The Swedish athletics stars' preparations for the World Cup in the USA are in full swing.

On Friday, Andreas Kramer sharpened his form at the Polish gala Irena Szewinska Memorial.

He started at 800 meters and really impressed.

Kramer clearly led before the race, but lost speed towards the end and finished third.

Kramer's time was still a sharp 1.44.59, which is twelve hundredths of his Swedish record.

- I am very happy with how I complete the race.

I took the lead after the hare, which went out very quickly.

Then I got to be the hare for the whole field.

I did the race myself and am very happy to keep it so good, he says to SVT Sport.

"Feel no shame"

The winner was Tony van Diepen, Netherlands, in 1.44.31.

- It was really good resistance.

So I feel no shame about coming third.

I had wanted to win, but at the same time had to do the hard work and I am satisfied with the effort, says Kramer.

His own record is within reach.

- I could just as easily have taken it today.

But I must have something left to hunt during the season.

So maybe it's just as good that I did not hit it (laughs).

It is absolutely within reach.

At the same time, I have a much bigger goal than just hitting it.

I want to improve it quite a bit.
