The Variétés club de France faces this Saturday in Calais a panel of ex-players of RC Lens for the benefit of the association "La Chance aux enfants", sponsored by Gervais Martel, former president of blood and gold.

One of the objectives is to allow children to attend events at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Several 98 world champions will put on their crampons for a good cause on Saturday.

In Calais, the Variétés club de France will face former RC Lens players at 4 p.m., in order to donate funds to the association "La Chance aux enfants".

Created and then sponsored by Gervais Martel, former boss of the Lensois club, the said association aims, among other things, to offer 10,000 children the opportunity to attend events at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

At the Stade de l'Epopée on Saturday, a five-star cast will play the game. Winners of the world championship in 1998, Christian Karembeu, Laurent Blanc and Robert Pirès will take their place in the ranks of the Variétés club de France.

They will also be accompanied by former PSG players Mathieu Bodmer, Clément Chantôme and Christophe Jallet.

A tribute paid at the start of the game

Opposite, the most fervent supporters of RC Lens will recognize Guillaume Warmuz, Erik Sikora, Vladimir Smicer, Jean-Guy Wallemme, Daniel Moreira or Aruna Dindane, champions of France in 1998. 

The match will be accessible to the general public with tickets ranging from 5 to 7 euros.

Before the meeting, a tribute will be paid to three former figures of RC Lens: Daniel Leclerc, coach of the team titled in 1998 but also Marc-Vivien Foé, who died during a heart attack in the middle of a match with his Cameroon selection in 2003, and finally Papa Bouba Diop, who died in 2020.
