Annika Sörenstam, who won the Pine Needles 26 years ago and has two more titles in the US Open, today played her first round in a major competition in 14 years.

Golf legend Sörenstam did not do away with himself in any way and was one under par after two holes played.

Then followed four bogeys on a fairly stable lap for a score of three over par.

To meet the qualifying limit, which is the Swede's big goal with the competition, a small improvement is needed tomorrow.

In Sörenstam's ball also went Ingrid Lindblad, who is ranked second in the world on the amateur side.

Completely without respect for the pros, Lindblad played dazzling golf.

Seven birdies of which three in a row in the last nine.

Only one bogey on the scorecard gave Lindblad the lead in the clubhouse at six under par - 65 strokes.

Record good.

Never has an amateur gone lower than 65 strokes on a lap in US Open history.

The Swede from Halmstad plays successful college golf for Louisiana University and has chosen to continue her studies instead of becoming a professional so far.

Her peers Linn Grant and Maja Stark chose to interrupt their studies to become professionals last year.

And it was not just Lindblad who played well of the eight blue-yellow Swedes to start.

Triple major winner Anna Nordqvist is split second on four under par.

Madelene Sagström accounted for a mixed round with both double bogey and eagle for 69 strokes.

Sagström came to the start with really good form and a lot of self-confidence.

She says she is 11th on a ten-point scale in terms of form.

- It feels great.

I am happy with my game in recent months, so it has really gone in the right direction, Sagström told SVT Sport on Tuesday.
