LPGA Match Play made its debut last year and is the only major match play competition on the American women's tour.

This year's edition has now made it through the group stage and the round of 16 finals - and among those who have impressed the most is a Swede.

Madelene Sagström has shown great form during the spring and lined up top positions, and it seems to be holding up.

After three straight victories in the group stage, against Swiss Albane Valenzuela, Taiwanese Hsu Wei-Ling and American Ryan O'Toole, the 29-year-old then had no worries about advancing from the round of 16 against American Emma Talley.

In the quarterfinals, South Korean Ji Eun-Hee is waiting.

Tough heat

- I thought that it would above all be physically challenging due to the heat here.

But now I'm probably mostly tired in the head, Sagström said to the LPGA Tour's website after the last group game.

"Raised my minimum level"

Sagström took her only victory so far on the LPGA Tour 2020. In recent weeks, she has shown that she is getting closer to her second.

Sagström comes to this week's competition with two third places, a ninth place and a 13th place (in the major Chevron Championship) as the last four results.

- It feels so.

I have worked very hard to raise my minimum level.

I have always known that I have the tops, but when I have played the worst, it has been a little too bad, says Sagström.

The star-studded starting field in Las Vegas would actually have contained another Swede, but Anna Nordqvist was forced to withdraw after becoming ill.
