Not since the American Serena Williams lined up 34 straight victories in 2013 has anyone been as superior on the women's WTA tour as Iga Swiatek is now.

While several other of the high-seeded pre-favorites have already gone out, the Polish world setter continues to impress in the French championships.

On Saturday, the 20-year-old, who won the grand slam tournament in 2020, was ready for the round of 16 after his 31st straight victory on the tour, 6-3, 7-5 against Danka Kovinic from Montenegro.

She sometimes had to struggle for the victory, not least in the second set where Kovinic turned 1-4 to 5-4, before Swiatek woke up and secured the promotion by taking home three straight games.

In the next round, either the Chinese Zheng Qinwen or Alize Cornet, France, are waiting.

For home jumper Léolia Jeanjean, the tournament is over for this time.

The 26-year-old was in his young years one of France's great tennis promises, but major injury problems caused his career to slow down.

Jeanjean surprisingly knocked out eighth-seeded Karolina Pliskova earlier in the tournament, but on Saturday it stopped against Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu, who won with a clear 6-1, 6-4.
