Denmark stood for a real feat when they managed to defeat the great nation Canada with 3-2 on Monday night.

A result that meant that they had their playoff fate in their own hands before today's meeting with Slovakia.

One point was all that was required - but then Denmark accounted for its worst effort during the entire World Cup tournament.

Tatar spun briskly

They had a terribly difficult time creating something of value going forward at the same time as the Slovak NHL star Tomas Tatar spun well in the Danish zone in the first period.

First, the 31-year-old put 1-0 after ten minutes of play and with 23 seconds left to play the first act, he increased to 2-0 after Danish carelessness on the offensive blue line.

And it would get worse.

In the second period, the Slovaks continued to scoop and the goals fell at a pace that made the Danish players more and more frustrated.

After Juraj Slafkovsky's 5-0 goal, the Danish team captain Peter Regin was close to tearing down the Danish booth with both kicks and blows.

Blichfeld reduced

But that did not help either.

Denmark reduced to 1-5 through Joachim Blichfeld barely eight minutes into the third period, but they never came closer than that.

Instead, they saw Simon Nemec put 6-1 with just over a minute left to play and a short while later also came 7-1 through Pavol Regenda.

The result means that Tre Kronor will now either face Canada or Slovakia in the quarterfinals.

We will know which team it will be after Finland-Czech Republic and Canada-France played their matches later tonight.
