Aston Villa goalkeeper attacked by Manchester City supporters

Manchester City has apologized to Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen after he was attacked by supporters of the first club who invaded the pitch, after their team retained the English Premier League title on Sunday.

And City issued an official statement saying, "Manchester City FC offers its sincere apologies to Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen for the attack on him after the end of today's match when Al-Ansar invaded the pitch."

According to pictures broadcast by the "Sky Sports" network, a group of people appeared to push the goalkeeper before he was escorted by a stadium official, protecting his head and then his face to the tunnel leading to the dressing rooms.

"The club has directly opened an investigation into the case, and when it learns the identity of the assailant, he will be permanently banned from entering the stadium," the statement added.

This incident comes after a series of similar incidents in the English stadiums in recent times.

Last Thursday, French Crystal Palace coach Patrick Vieira kicked an Everton fan who had insulted him and made a disgraceful move towards him after Everton's victory over Palace and guaranteed him staying in the ranks of the Premier League clubs.

And two days before, a Nottingham Forest fan, who is in the play-offs to qualify for the Premier League, headbutted the player of the rival team, Sheffield United, Billy Sharp.

The identity of the assailant was quickly identified and he was imprisoned for 24 weeks.
