Liverpool's top scorer, Mohamed Salah, said that his team is "excited and optimistic" ahead of the final and decisive round of the English Premier League title, and he is also happy to repeat the confrontation with Real Madrid in the Champions League final later this month.

Liverpool is second in the league, one point behind leaders Manchester City, before the last day of the competition, tomorrow, Sunday.

Liverpool is waiting for City to stumble against Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium, with coach Jurgen Klopp's team winning at the same time at his home stadium over Wolverhampton Wanderers to grab the title.

"I'm excited and anything that might happen in football," Salah told beIN Sports. "We hope that City will lose or draw and win the title."

"We are talking within the team. We are excited and we can only be optimistic and focus on our match and we will see what happens. The same situation was repeated (in the 2018-2019 season) and they won (City) the title (in the last round)."

Liverpool will have an opportunity to add a new title after the League and FA Cups this season when they face Real Madrid in Paris on May 28.

The captain of the Egyptian national team spoke earlier and on more than one occasion about his desire to "revenge" the Spanish league champion.

Salah left the field in tears after suffering a shoulder injury after a violent intervention with former Real defender Sergio Ramos during Liverpool's 3-1 loss in the 2018 Champions League final in Kiev.

Liverpool qualified for the final of the prestigious continental championship for the third time in 5 years, and Salah aspires to lift the cup for the second time and enhance his chances of winning the Golden Ball for the first time.

The Premier League top scorer so far said, "I am happy to play Real Madrid, some thought that talking about my desire to play them was an insult to them. But Real Madrid is the strongest team in the history of the Champions League and what happened in the last final makes me want to face them again."

He added, "It will be a difficult confrontation, especially since Real defeated the strongest competitors this season (they knocked out Paris Saint-Germain, the defending champions Chelsea and City). I am excited for the final and I hope to win the title."

Salah missed the last victory over Southampton in the league due to a muscle injury he suffered against Chelsea in the FA Cup final, but it likely will not prevent him from playing against Wolverhampton or Real Madrid.
