The death of the former Algeria national team defender

Former Algerian national team defender Faouzi Mansouri, who participated mainly in the 1982 and 1986 World Cups, passed away at the age of 66, after a long struggle with illness, as announced by his former French club, Montpellier, today.

"Montpellier Club has learned with deep sadness the death of its former player, Faouzi Mansouri, who has been battling the disease for several months," Montpellier said in a statement.

Mansouri defended the colors of Montpellier in two batches from 1981 to 1983 and then from 1985 to 1986, and played 61 matches in his ranks, and also played for Nimes, Béziers and Mulhouse clubs.

He was among the golden generation that participated in the World Cup in Spain in 1982 when the "Desert Warriors" won a historic victory over West Germany 2-1 to achieve Algeria's first victory in the finals.

He also participated in the World Cup Finals in Mexico in 1986, when his country was eliminated for the second time from the group stage.
