The Dauphinois Museum in Grenoble (Isère) presented the latest addition to its collection this Wednesday.
This is an authentic torch used for the torch relay of the Winter Olympics organized by the city in 1968. Only 33 copies of this torch had been manufactured, indicates France Bleu Isère.
The one that the museum will exhibit is the result of a donation.
The family of the vice-president of the Organizing Committee of the Grenoble Olympics Maurice Gleizes gave the establishment the torch they owned.
The museum, which already has many objects related to the 1968 edition of the unmissable sporting event, was indeed looking to obtain one of these torches.
Une longue attente
« Cette torche n’est plus donnée à voir au public dans notre ville depuis la fin de l’olympiade », a précisé le directeur du musée grenoblois. Le flambeau sera prochainement exposé dans un écrin à la hauteur de la valeur de l’objet. Un des exemplaires a ainsi été vendu aux enchères pour près de 200.000 euros.
