As an assistant women's coach, Stefan Thomson has worked full time alongside the women's head coach Magnus Ingesson.

But when Charlotte Kalla left after the past season, Ingesson also left the national ski team to return to a police service in Piteå.

Thomson replaces Ingesson - but his assistant coach, who will be appointed shortly, will only work part-time.

Stefan Thomson is diplomatic when he comments on the cut:

- You want as many resources as possible.

It is a demanding job and there are many skiers.

But now the situation is that we should drive with a 50 percent and that is the resource we have.

There has been a slight tightening from the union, says Stefan Thomson.

Balance sheet

This tightening was also noticed earlier this spring when national team doctor Jan Wall announced that he was quitting.

Walls explanation?

That it was too much work for too little compensation.

- At the same time, it is a balancing act.

Where does the border go before it affects the business?

Right now we are not there, but it is fine, says Thomson.

How does austerity affect daily operations?

- It will not affect the riders.

You have to work a little more, Stefan Thomson answers.

How else will it be felt that you take over?

- Even though me and Magnus (Ingesson) worked very well close to each other, I want to put a little different touch on it.

It is inevitable when you change person.

I think it is important to have a good team cohesion during the training year.

It should be a strong team with strong individuals who push each other forward.

It leads to success.

I see all skiers with the same value and want to help them become better skiers.

Stefan Thomson also says that sprint and distance skiers will more often train in different places and in smaller groups.

- The basic surface is the same, but you have different profiles, therefore the design of the workouts should look different sometimes to optimize the effect.
