The basketball team leaves for Kuwait to participate in the "Gulf Games"

The delegation of the first national basketball team left yesterday for Kuwait to participate in the Gulf Games, the competitions of which will start tomorrow, Tuesday, and extend until the 31st of this month.

The team’s delegation included 12 players: Qais Omar, the two brothers Muhammad and Hamid Abdul Latif, Khalifa Khalil, Rashid Ahmed, Muhammad Saleh, Rashid Al Zaabi, Jassem Muhammad, Omar Al-Amri, Mahmoud Waseem, Hamid Hashel and Saeed Ashour, while the technical and administrative staff includes the coach, Munir bin Al Habib and his assistants Salem. Atiq, Ali Al-Hattawi and Husam Al-Wakeel, in addition to team manager Rashid Al-Naqbi and team administrator Abdullah Madani.

The head of the UAE and Arab federations, Major General Ismail Al Gergawi, was keen to meet the team’s delegation before it travels to Kuwait, and Al Gergawi called on the Al-Abyad players to represent the UAE basketball honorable and do their best to compete for an advanced position.

Al-Gergawi said in a press statement: “Despite the absences affecting the team, whether for injury or work, the Football Association made double efforts in order to solve the problem of branching players and create all conditions for preparing the team and overcoming obstacles, with the aim of achieving the best results in this Gulf sports gathering. ».

In turn, team manager Rashid Al-Naqbi said: "The Gulf championship represents a preparation station for the team ahead of the first phase of the Asian qualifiers, which will be held in Doha early next month."

He explained: "The team will begin its Gulf campaign with its Bahraini counterpart, to be followed the next day by a meeting with Saudi Arabia, then Kuwait, and the curtain will be drawn down in the preliminary round with a meeting with its Qatari counterpart. The final rounds will be held on May 23 and 24."

He added, "The Gulf participation is followed by the entitlement of the first window of the Asian qualifiers, where Al-Abyad meets its counterpart Sri Lanka on the second of July, followed the next day by the meeting of the Omani team, to conclude its journey on June 4 with the meeting of the host with the Qatari team."
