Sporting goods manufacturer Nike has terminated its contracts with two major Russian sports clubs - basketball team CSKA Moscow and football club Spartak Moscow.

According to the Russian news portal "Championat", it is still unclear at CSKA whether the basketball club will play in Nike jerseys in the coming season after the withdrawal of the American company.

There is a possibility that the club could buy them without a contract with the manufacturer.

CSKA has reached the semi-finals of the VTB United League, a competition in which leading basketball clubs in Eastern Europe compete against each other.

The main sponsor of the tournament is the Russian bank VTB, sanctioned by both the US, UK and the EU.

In the case of Spartak Moscow, on the other hand, it is about the current inactivity on the international stage.

The Russian record champions said Nike's decision comes in response to sanctions imposed by UEFA on May 2 banning all Russian football clubs and national teams from European tournaments: the fact that our club will not participate in European competitions next season due to the measures taken by UEFA," the football club said in a statement.

He is currently looking for a new outfitter.

Nike has been an official sponsor of Spartak Moscow since 2005.

According to Russian media, the loss of the old sponsor means that the club loses around 500 million rubles (around 7.4 million euros) a year.

However, a successor is already in sight.

The Russian fashion manufacturer Zasport, which is already the official outfitter of the Russian Olympic team, has offered to sponsor FC in the future.
