Eintracht Frankfurt passed the final endurance test before the Europa League final against Glasgow Rangers.

The Hessians came to a 2-2 (2-1) win at FSV Mainz 05 at the end of the Bundesliga season on Saturday. In the Rhein-Main derby in front of 33,000 spectators, Marcus Ingvartsen (10th/49th minute) scored for the home side double.

Tuta (25th) and Rafael Borré (35th) scored the goals for Frankfurt.

Four days before the biggest game in the club's history since winning the UEFA Cup 42 years ago, the Hessians held back in the early stages in summery temperatures.

Mainz initially acted aggressively and powerfully as usual.

Jonathan Burkardt had the early lead in the 8th minute, but failed at Eintracht goalkeeper Kevin Trapp.

Only 120 seconds later, Trapp was powerless.

Evan Ndicka was able to clear a shot from Anton Stach just before the line, but Ingvartsen scored in the follow-up.

The Dane slipped into the Mainz starting eleven at short notice because Karim Onisiwo had to pass due to a bruised toe.

Frankfurt continued to play sluggishly and without a move towards the goal – much to the displeasure of coach Oliver Glasner, who kept gesturing wildly at his team.

That had an effect in the middle of the first half, even if the equalizer came out of nowhere.

After a free kick, Borré was initially denied by 05 goalkeeper Finn Dahmen before Tuta scored from close range.

Now the Hessians were finally in the game.

Djibril Sow just missed the Mainz goal with a long-range shot, a little later Borré aimed better after a dream pass from Ansgar Knauff.

Dahmen had no chance when the Colombian shot low.

After the change, Mainz got off to a better start and quickly equalized.

When Anton Stach crossed low, Ingvartsen was there again and overcame Trapp with a direct acceptance.

Now the 05ers were pushing for the lead, but a left-footed shot from Aaron (55th) landed on the post.

After Eintracht captain Sebastian Rode stayed in the dressing room after 45 minutes with a view to the Europa League final, Glasner brought in three more fresh players after just under an hour.

Tuta, Almamy Touré and Jens Petter Hauge were allowed to conserve their strength.

Shortly thereafter, it was also the end for Ndicka: the defender had to leave the field injured.

Things got emotional in the 70th minute when Daniel Brosinski left the pitch to applause from his teammates and the Mainz fans.

For the 33-year-old it was the last of 204 Bundesliga appearances in the 05 jersey.

A little later Jonathan Burkardt celebrated the supposed 3:2, but referee Martin Petersen did not give the goal because the shooter had played a foul on Trapp.

So it stayed with the draw.
