- We are keeping our fingers crossed for a date that benefits Falun, says Ulrika Back Eriksson, CEO of organizing the Swedish Ski Games.

The first message from the International Ski Federation (Fis) was that the ski competitions in Falun will be decided as early as December 3-4, unlike last season when they were decided in March.

That disappointed Ulrika Back Eriksson.

- We do not think it is a good proposal.

It is not the best time to have the competition, she said then.

Now she says:

- In December, we will most likely not have frost in the ground and can not lay popular stretches out in the woods.

Climate challenge

Falun is one of the classic ski resorts that has been hit hard by the warmer climate.

Despite the fact that there is already a record-breaking layer of artificial snow in Falun to cope with any competitions in December, there will be problems.

- In December, it is unlikely that we can go on regular distance tracks.

Then we get to look at other forms of competition, says Ulrika Back Eriksson.

But now Falun seems to get its way through anyway.

The Swedish Ski Association and the organizer in Falun have had a dialogue with Fis (International Ski Association) and now it seems to result in the Falun competitions being given a new date, until after the turn of the year.

- The issue is being prepared in Fi's executive committee and there are various alternatives and solutions around the calendar issues for the World Cup 2022/2023, which are now on the table.

No decision will be made later, May, says Swedish cross-country manager Lars Öberg, who is a member of Fi's executive committee that approves the competition program.

Hopeful

Ulrika Back Eriksson is hopeful:

- We would like to see it in March, at the same time many others want it.

But we would like to have the competitions after the turn of the year because it gives us opportunities to create better opportunities for the competitions.

When the World Cup program is nailed down, Fis strives to divide the season into blocks to, among other things, make travel more efficient.

Traditionally, there is an introductory Nordic block with the premiere in Ruka, Finland, at the end of December.

The next Nordic block is at the end of the season with Holmenkollen and Lahti, among others. Two organizer locations that are prioritized because they can offer the entire Nordic program with length, ski jumping and Nordic combination.
