“The oldest grandmaster in the world, Yuri Lvovich Averbakh (1922-2022), has passed away,” the message says on Twitter.
Yuri Lvovich is the champion of the USSR, as well as the champion of Europe as part of the USSR national team.
In 2021, Averbakh was hospitalized with a coronavirus infection.
