The Kuwait-based Olympic Council of Asia issued a notice on the morning of the 6th local time, announcing its decision to postpone the Hangzhou Asian Games.

The announcement stated that after detailed discussions with the Chinese Olympic Committee and the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee, it was decided to postpone the 19th Asian Games originally scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, China from September 10 to 25, 2022. It will be announced at an appropriate time after the parties have agreed.

  The announcement also emphasized that the name and emblem of the 19th Asian Games will remain unchanged. The Olympic Council of Asia believes that with the joint efforts of all parties, the Hangzhou Asian Games will be a complete success.

  The announcement also stated that the Olympic Council of Asia and relevant parties have studied the situation of the third Asian Youth Games originally scheduled to be held in Shantou, China in December 2022. Since the Asian Youth Games have been postponed once, they have discussed and decided to cancel the Shantou Asian Youth Games. The next Asian Youth Games will be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in 2025.
