The AFC supports the election of Infantino as FIFA president until 2027

 Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, President of the Asian Football Confederation, announced today, Saturday, that the Asian Football Confederation and the Asian football family welcome the re-nomination of Gianni Infantino as President of the International Football Association (FIFA) for a new term from 2023 to 2027, stressing the AFC’s solidarity with him. This came during the tenth meeting of the Executive Office of the Asian Football Confederation, which was held in "Dushanbe", the capital of Tajikistan, in the first meeting to be held for the Executive Office in Central Asia.

Infantino, the President of the International Football Association, had recently announced the candidacy for his re-election to the presidency of the International Federation in 2023, and Sheikh Salman welcomed this nomination during the meeting of the Executive Office.

Sheikh Salman said: "Infantino has provided inspiring leadership to football in Asia and the world at large, during times of great adversity, and we are grateful to him for his great support of the Asian football family."

The agenda of the AFC Executive Bureau meeting also included the launch of two new development projects, which are designed to enhance the capabilities of member associations to develop the game on a regular basis across the continent.

"The two new development programs are the Preference Program and the Overtime Program, which confirms our commitment to the members," said the AFC President.

He explained, "These programs will join other projects in the advanced program that was launched six months ago, and both programs will be designed for aspiring and emerging national federations."

He added, "These programs confirm our ambition to reduce disparities in Asian football and raise the level of the game throughout the continent."

The AFC President stressed the Confederation's appreciation of the member associations, following the conclusion of the group stage of the 2022 AFC Champions League, pointing to the efforts of the host national associations to ensure that the Confederation continues on the path of implementing most of the 2022 competitions.

Sheikh Salman said: "Last week, we completed the group stage matches in the AFC Champions League. We extend our deepest gratitude to the four member national federations that hosted the matches using the pool system, which are the Saudi Football Association, the Thai Football Association, the Malaysian Football Association and the Vietnam Football Federation. ".

He added, "After nearly two years, we welcome the return of Asian futsal activity, by holding the Asian Futsal Cup qualifiers, and once again we thank the national federations that hosted the matches."

He explained, "Across Asia, the host countries for the AFC Cup matches have been announced, and the jewel of our tournaments is the 2023 Asian Cup qualifiers in China."
