The Gunners did not wait for the end of the season to maintain their confidence in Mikel Arteta, the coach who is on the way to achieving the feat of putting Arsenal back in the top 4 of the Premier League, after loooong years of trouble.

The club has indeed announced the extension of the contract of its coach until 2025, Friday.

The 40-year-old Spaniard, appointed in December 2019 after Unai Emery was sacked, said he was "really happy" and said he wanted to "take the club to the next level to really compete with the top teams".

"To do that, we have to play the Champions League," he continued.

A more enticing derby against Spurs, you die

Despite a disastrous start to the season, Arteta, who also captained the Gunners as a player under the Wenger era, managed to guide Arsenal to the top of the table with important wins over Manchester United and Chelsea in the final sprint.

If nothing is decided yet, the Gunners have their destiny in their hands.

Fourth in the championship with two points ahead of their London rival Tottenham (and only three behind Chelsea, 3rd), four days from the end, Arsenal have never been so close to finding the C1.

As such, the derby against Spurs next Thursday, in a late match counting for the 22nd day of the Premier League, clearly looks like a small final.
