Monaco's superb run in the Euroleague came to an end on Wednesday evening at the gates of Final 4. Beaten by Olympiakos 94 to 88 in the very boiling Stade de la Paix et de l'Amitié in Piraeus, the basketball players of the Principality left the competition head held high.

The last step was too high for Sasa Obradovic's Roca Team, forced to win in Piraeus in this decisive match to obtain their ticket to Belgrade and the Euroleague final four on May 19 and 21.

French basketball will have to wait at least another season to see a club playing in its Elite championship again climb into the last four of the Euroleague.

The last time was in the previous century, in 1997 with Villeurbanne, one of the only two clubs in France with Limoges (1990, 1993 and 1995) to have played in a Final 4.

Up to 11 points ahead for the Roca Team

The scenario of this decisive match will leave some regrets to the Monegasques who dominated for more than 20 minutes, counting up to 11 points in advance (30-19).

But the match was finally played in the last five minutes, with the awakening of Kostas Sloukas, winner of the Euroleague with Olympiakos in 2012 and 2013 and with Fenerbahçe.

🤯 MADNESS in Piraeus!

Monaco eliminated, but scenes of jubilation still impressive, with Olympiakos fans.

Mute for 32 minutes, the Greek leader chained the baskets to allow the Piraeus team to take control, before the last moments of the game took place in confusion.

The Olympiakos supporters anticipated the end of the match by a few seconds with smoke bombs and by climbing onto the floor, when the match was won.

"The Apocalypse", tweeted NBA star Kevin Durant, who came to support his Monegasque friend Mike James - they played together at the Brooklyn Nets in 2021 - on Wednesday in Piraeus, with a video of the room before the end of the encounter.

“KD” had already attended match 4 in the Principality last week.
