  Rock climbing competitions began in the 1950s, and after the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games, they were once again included in the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games and the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Rock climbing competitions include speed competition, rock climbing competition, difficulty competition and all-around competition.

The Hangzhou Asian Games rock climbing competition will be held from September 15 to September 19, 2022, and a total of 6 gold medals are expected to be won.

  Luo Shen, a national coach of the Mountaineering Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China and director of the competition committee of this trial, said that the all-around team of the national rock climbing training team will prepare for the Hangzhou Asian Games and the first phase of the Paris Olympic Games from December 7, 2021. The rock climbing training camp was opened in Qingzhen Sports Training Base in Guizhou Province. Since then, it has been transferred to Guizhou and Beijing, and has undergone basic physical training and special training for nearly half a year.
