Swedish ice hockey has achieved enormous success over the years, from history's first international gold in 1953 to Sunday's surprising gold in the U18 World Cup.

Many classic moments and TV pictures have etched themselves with the Swedish people and made ice hockey one of Sweden's most beloved sports.

Who does not remember Hyland's classic "Puck slides into goal" from Squaw Valley 1962, Foppa's stamp goal from the 1994 Olympics in Lillehammer and Maria Rooth's decision in the Olympics in Turin 2006?

"Feels incredibly fun"

At Tidernas Hockeygala on Thursday 17 November 2022, the great successes of Swedish ice hockey will be celebrated, the classic moments will be revisited and the greatest heroes in hockey history will be celebrated.

In addition, a new specially composed jury will nominate prestigious awards such as the Goalkeeper of the Time, back and forward and the main prize of the gala Players of the Times.

SVT's expert will be part of the jury that selects the winners.

- There are so many individuals and achievements to celebrate through the Swedish ice hockey history - so many pioneers who paved the way for younger generations.

It is truly an honorary assignment to be part of the jury, he says.

Hockey profiles on site

Viewers also get the opportunity to vote for their favorite and choose the Moment of the Times and the All Star Five of the Times.

Several of Swedish ice hockey's large and popular hockey profiles will be on site in Avicii Arena, together with the Swedish artist elite.

Which are still secret.

- It feels incredibly fun to be able to show ice hockey's foremost moments for our large TV audience in the Time Hockey Gala, says SVT's sports director Åsa Edlund Jönsson.

The gala is a collaboration between SVT and the Swedish Ice Hockey Association and is broadcast on SVT1 on Thursday 17 November at 20.00-21.50.
