For the first time in the ancient history of Madison Square Garden, two female boxers won the main event.

Ireland's undefeated national hero Katie Taylor against Puerto Rico's knockout queen Amanda Serrano.

Together they only had a loss in 64 professional matches (Serrano against Frida Wallberg in Linköping 2012).

In the late 1990s, female boxing was still banned in Ireland.

Katie then boxed in boys' tournaments under the fictitious name "Kay Taylor" and during the competitions she always kept her head protection on, to hide her feminine features.

The journey to tonight's gala in New York has been long.

But now a sold-out and boiling arena, with over 19,000 spectators, was invited to a historic match - which also exceeded the high expectations.

The atmosphere was electric.

What has been called "the greatest women's match of all time" should perhaps also be called the best of all time.

With the boxing world's eyes on New York, they offered a modern classic.

Captured the attention of the sports world

"When you talk about boxing in Madison Square Garden, it's often about Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier.

But people will definitely talk about me and Amanda Serrano for many years to come as well, "said Taylor after the points victory.

Let's hope she's right.

Women's boxing has not had the same development as in the MMA world where the best ladies get as much attention and the same money as the men.

Not even Laila Ali, with the boxing world's most famous last name, really managed to break through and take the sport to this level.

Amanda Serrano is said to have earned over ten million kroner for this match, which to my knowledge can be the biggest fee ever for a women's boxer.

This match caught the attention of the sports world and showed that the ladies can have exactly the same traction as the men, if they are promoted in the same way.

British promoter Eddie Hearn stated afterwards: "This was the evening when we stopped talking about women's boxing and men's boxing.

It's just boxing.

Point."

Swedish fans can be proud

Elin Cederroos had the chance to write Swedish boxing history as the first ever to win all four world champion belts in one and the same weight class.

Instead, she was defeated by the American Franchón Crews-Dezurn.

The Swede's first loss in her career, but an effort she can be proud of.

SVT Sport was allowed to be in the locker room before and after the match and a calm Cederroos has during the week in New York shown no signs of nerves or that she was taken by the seriousness of the moment.

The number of Swedes who attend the biggest galas, or go to this type of match, is easy to count.

The Swedish fans have every reason to be proud of Elin Cederroos.
